2014 Merryvale Oakville Grade Red Wine
70% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot / 22 months in 70% new French oak barrels from Allier, Juppilles and Troncais
Sourced from the Fortuna Vineyard on the east side of Oakville. The grapes were handpicked during the first part of September. The Cabernet Franc and Merlot were fermented separately in 2 and 4-ton fermenters. Native fermentation began after a 5-day cold soak and reached a peak temperature of 90°F. The wines were pumped over a few times a day until dryness and then pressed and drained to barrels where malolactic fermentation occurred. We aged the wine for 22 months in 70% new French oak barrels from Allier, Juppilles and Troncais. The wine was bottled without fining or filtration.
Fortuna Vineyard is an incredible vineyard located on the east side of Oakville. The alluvial soil promotes early ripening and elegance in the wine. The Cabernet Franc is always very complex and spicy, whereas the Merlot brings soft and round notes to this blend. With proper cellaring, this wine will drink beautifully for up to 20 years or more.
