2019 Merryvale Pinot Noir Stanly Ranch Estate
The fruit for this bottling of Pinot Noir came from our Stanly Ranch Estate Vineyard on the Napa side of Carneros. Hand harvested before dawn in early September, the grapes were fermented in open top stainless tanks using native yeasts and 20% whole cluster inclusion. Hand punchdowns, minimal pumpovers, and 50% new French Burgundy barrels combine to create a wine that is deft on the palate, brimming with vibrancy, acidity, and complexity. The wine spent 18 months in French oak barrels before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
2019 was a great vintage for Pinot Noir in Carneros. Average temperatures and a long growing season led into an ideal harvest where all grapes were picked at optimum ripeness and balance. This is a stunningly gorgeous example of a New World Pinot crafted with an Old World approach. Aromas of Ranier cherry and rhubarb mingle with baking spices and the freshness of forest floor. On the palate, silky tannins support the fruit. The wine is medium bodied but retains great acidity, and the long, complex, mineral driven finish only improves as it evolves. Drink over the next 10 years.
