2016 Merryvale Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard
The near-perfect 2016 growing season started early and saw ideal weather conditions throughout. Thanks to a relatively steady and mild July and August and then a series of warm days at the end of the growing season, vineyards were able to progress to perfect ripeness.
Lying in a cool area of Carneros, the Hyde vineyard is protected by the winds and always produces slow ripening chardonnay that delivers a lot of interesting flavors and balance. The wines typically show some spice and exotic fruit thanks to the clonal selection that includes both Wente and Musque clones. The 2016 Hyde Chardonnay displays its delicate side with aromas and flavors of mango and guava. With 16 months in barrel, this wine offers oak and spice with a soft acidity that lingers, showing notes of créme brûlée in the finish. The time in barrel broadens out the wine, giving it the complexity and balance we expect from this outstanding vineyard.
