2014 Merryvale Malbec Napa Valley
Winemaking
Sourced from Stagecoach Vineyard on Atlas Peak, the fruit for this Malbec was handpicked and double sorted before being cold soaked for 5 days. Fermented with native yeasts, fermentation reached a peak temperature of 92°F. After 15 days in tank, the wines were drained and pressed into barrels. The wine was aged for 22 months in 50% new French oak barrels from Allier, the other 50% being once used. The wine was topped monthly, racked four times and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Notes
Our Malbec is a very dense and dark wine. It has a lot of spice along with leather notes and red fruit. The grapes are sourced from Stagecoach Vineyard on Atlas Peak at about 1,200 feet elevation which makes it one of the highest vineyards in Napa Valley. This explains the wine’s beautiful dark color and full mid palate. We look for spice and freshness when we pick this Malbec. Elegance is the key for this wine.
