2012 Merryvale Malbec, Napa Valley
Description
The 2012 Malbec is a blend of 99% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Tasting Notes
Deep purple in color with notes of strawberry, raspberry and coffee. The round entry is followed by long, smooth acidity. The wine finishes with subtle tannins and floral notes. This is the first time that Merryvale has produced a Malbec, although this varietal has played an important role in many of our red wine blends.
Vineyard Notes
Sourced from a high elevation vineyard on the Mayacamas Mountains, the fruit for this first-ever Merryvale Malbec was hand picked and double sorted before going under cold soak. It then spent 15 days on the skins before undergoing both native and inoculated primary fermentation, and native malolactic fermentation. We aged the wine for 22 months in 50% new French oak barrels.
