2013 Merryvale Cabernet Franc
90% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon
Pouring from the bottle, this solidly opaque wine shows itself as a true Cabernet Franc. Bright cherry on the nose, supported by cranberry and a subtle leafiness. The strong 2013 vintage helped create a dense and concentrated wine with moderately bright acid and a full tannin structure, bringing forth flavors of dark fruits, dried citrus peel and well integrated barrel notes. Ending with a moderately long and lingering finish, this Cabernet Franc will evolve beautifully for 10 to 15 years.
Hand picked in the early morning hours to preserve the freshness and skin integrity of the fruit. Arriving at our historic winery in St. Helena, the grapes were then shepherded through a multi-step sorting process before being gravity fed into small fermenters. To ensure the highest quality, the juice spent an average of 22 days on the skins, undergoing both primary and malolactic fermentations with native yeast. This extended skin contact maximizes extraction of flavor, color, and aromas. The wine was aged for 22 months in 75% new French oak barrels with minimal racking before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
