85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Petit Verdot
Aromas of dark sweet cherry, black currant, dark plum, integrated spice and toast notes and some dried herb. Very sweet, exuberant fruit including red currant, green tea, dried rose petals, delicate fresh herbs and oak notes of toffee and cigar box. Sweet black fruit on the entry opens to a rich, velvety mid-palate. The weight and concentration in this wine are balanced by flavors of dark ripe cherry, berry and plum, along with cocoa, spice and subtle dried herb. The oak is well integrated and seamlessly supports the weight of the fruit. This elegantly structured wine has nice acidity, a long finish and very fine tannins.
We recommend decanting this wine in its youth. It will reach a nice level of complexity 8-10 years from vintage, and with proper cellaring it will continue to develop further over the next 10+ years.
Profile is typically a blend comprised from top vineyard sites in our portfolio from throughout the Napa Valley, drawing on the strengths and complexity inherent in different soils and microclimates. However, in 2012, the wine is 100% estate grown, sourced entirely from our gorgeous hillside Schlatter Family Estate Vineyard. This is only the second vintage that we have been able to exclusively source from this exceptional site in since its development in 1996. Although the 2012 harvest was excellent throughout the Napa Valley, we found in our blending trials that our estate lots still stood head and shoulders above the rest. The phenolic development in this vineyard is truly outstanding and showcased in the wine’s elegance and very fine tannin structure.
